GENGHIS BLUES,
THE STORY OF A BLIND BLUES MUSICIAN'S DISCOVERY OF AN
ANCIENT ART FORM AND HIS JOURNEY TO A LOST LAND

DEBUTS ON DVD AND VHS TUESDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2000

Docurama is pleased to announce the release of Genghis Blues on Tuesday, December 5th. The documentary, which follows blind blues musician Paul Pena on a musical, cultural and spiritual journey, was nominated for the 1999 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and has been honored at both national and international film festivals. Added features exclusive to the DVD are: previously unseen concert footage, a running commentary by filmmakers Roko and Adrian Belic, an interview with the filmmakers, interactive menu and web links to affiliated organizations and websites. Genghis Blues will be in stores on Tuesday, December 5th.

Paul Pena who has played with John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters and Bonnie Raitt among others, became fascinated by Tuvan "throatsinging" the first time he heard it over his short wave radio. Requiring a single vocalist to produce multiple vocal tones, "throatsinging" is difficult to master, but with time Pena excelled. He eventually traveled to Tuva (between Siberia and Mongolia), where he, with the encouragement of masters of the ancient art, became the only non-Tuvan ever to be named "throatsinging champion" in the country's yearly contest. Genghis Blues is the first feature by filmmakers and brothers Roko and Adrian Belic.
